SESSIONS sponsored by NAHRS include:

1. Building Lighthouses on Far Shores: Services to Underserved Health Professionals, Monday, May 5, 3:30- 5 pm
Secondary Sponsors: Public Health/Health Administration Section, Mental Health SIG, and Outreach SIG

Description: Many health professionals are not directly affiliated with a large university library or do not have access to any library services. These may include health professionals in rural or inner city areas or in stand-alone practices who may be physicians, nurses, public health workers, health department employees, physical therapists, or other allied health workers and allied professionals (for example, athletic trainers). Has your library been providing outreach to these underserved professionals? What were the outcomes? This session is designed to showcase outreach programs-including but not limited to marketing library services, developing Web and virtual library content, or providing continuing education workshops-that bring library and information services to these far shores and research that explores this area.

2. Lifeguarding 101: Avoiding or Surviving Wipeout in the Waves of Health Sciences Librarianship, Tuesday, May 6, 3 - 4:30 pm
Secondary Sponsors: Leadership and Management Section, Technical Services Section, and Mental Health SIG

Description: Mergers, reorganization, budget cuts, layoffs. Whether dealing with "more with less," lack of appreciation, or being shown the door, health sciences librarians do not have an easy time these days. How have you and your organization dealt with stress and stressful circumstances? Any tales of survival against the odds? Any heroic (or quiet) rescues by mentors? Do you have any tips for those who may be facing shipwrecks or who are treading water? Share them with your colleagues during this session.

Can ethnicity or health status information be used to prevent employment or diminish health care opportunities? How do we cope with the murky waters of information overload and overlapping or conflicting responsibilities to our profession and our clientele? Fishing for tips and solutions to similar problems?
